PMP News: Revision of the minimum wages

The minimum wage guidelines have been released for 2015 as follows.

For Tokyo, the hourly rate was increased from Y888 to Y907, and from Y887 to Y905 for Kanagawa. For Aichi, Y800 was raised to Y820, while Y838 has become Y858 for Osaka.

Please be fully aware that the minimum wage for Tokyo and Kanagawa has exceeded Y900 this time. Recently, an Izakaya restaurant in Tokyo was looking for a part-time employee with hourly rate at Y900, which has now become illegal.

Kanagawa has had one yen lower minimum wage than Tokyo. After the revision this time, the difference has now become 2 yen. It was to address the concern with drop of the number of tourists in Hakone due to the recent volcano eruption.

At the minimum wage review in Kanagawa Prefecture, the administration office proposed the minimum wage for Kanagawa to be Y906, which was one yen less than that of Tokyo.  It is rare not to pass the proposal given by the administration office, however, the concerned voices were large and deemed as worth of consideration.
